# DEV Community

> Connect DEV Community to your Atako agents — 8 read and 2 write actions.

Let your agents publish on DEV Community (dev.to) — write and update articles as drafts or published posts, read your articles, public articles, comments, organizations and followers.

## Connection

* **Authentication**: API key (DEV API key).

<Note>
 Sign in at dev.to → Settings → Extensions → "DEV Community API Keys". Under "Generate a new Key", type a description (e.g. "Atako"), click "Generate API Key" and copy the key shown under "Active API keys". DEV keys have no scopes: the key acts with the full rights of your account, so generate it from the account your agents should publish as.

 See [DEV Community's documentation](https://dev.to/settings/extensions).
</Note>

## Read actions (8)

| Action | Description |
| - | - |
| `get_article` | Get one PUBLISHED article by its numeric id, with its Markdown and HTML body, tags and author. Drafts are not readable through the API. |
| `get_article_by_path` | Get one PUBLISHED article from its URL path: [https://dev.to/\<username\>/\<slug](https://dev.to/\<username\>/\<slug)> → username and slug. |
| `get_current_user` | Get the profile of the account that owns the API key (id, username, name, summary, location, joined date). Its `username` lists your own published articles through list\_articles. |
| `get_organization` | Get an organization's public profile by its username (the `organization.username` of its articles), including its numeric id used as organization\_id. |
| `list_article_comments` | List the comments of an article as threads (replies nested under each comment). Without page, the whole tree is returned; page only paginates top-level comments. |
| `list_articles` | List published DEV articles (featured, by popularity by default). To list YOUR OWN published articles, pass username = the `username` returned by get\_current\_user (drafts are not listed). Filter with tag (one tag), tags / tags\_exclude (comma-separated), username (a user or organization, newest first), state (fresh, rising, or all with username), top (most popular of the last N days) or collection\_id (a series). |
| `list_followers` | List the users who follow the account that owns the API key. |
| `list_organization_articles` | List the articles published by an organization, newest first. |

## Write actions (2)

| Action | Description |
| - | - |
| `create_article` | Create an article — saved as a DRAFT unless published is true. Arguments: title (string, required); body\_markdown (string of Markdown, no YAML front matter); published (boolean, default false = draft); tags (array of at most 4 strings, e.g. \["ai","webdev"]); series (string); main\_image (absolute image URL string); canonical\_url (absolute URL string); description (string); organization\_id (integer, from get\_organization). |
| `update_article` | Update one of your articles; only the fields you pass change. Arguments: id (integer, required); title (string); body\_markdown (string of Markdown, no YAML front matter); published (boolean — true publishes a draft, false turns a published article back into a draft); tags (array of at most 4 strings); series (string); main\_image (absolute image URL string); canonical\_url (absolute URL string); description (string); organization\_id (integer). |

## Permissions

Every action above must be explicitly granted to an agent before it can be used. See [Permissions](/integrations/permissions) for the grant model and [Security](/integrations/security) for how credentials are protected.
